Abstract
Background and Objectives: Teacher quality is widely regarded as the cornerstone of effective education systems, as qualified and committed educators play a critical role in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and practical skills. Recognizing this, many governments have placed strong emphasis on teacher education. This study compares the training of physical education teachers in Iran with approaches used in Japan, Canada, and Malaysia. Methods: A qualitative and comparative design was adopted, applying George Brady’s four-step model of description, interpretation, neighborhood, and comparison. Data were collected through a comprehensive review of books, research articles, and academic journals published domestically and internationally.Findings: The findings highlight notable differences between Iran and the selected countries. In Japan, Canada, and Malaysia, multiple institutions, including universities and private organizations, contribute to teacher preparation, whereas in Iran, this responsibility lies solely with Farhangian University. Teaching certification is mandatory in Canada, Japan, and Malaysia, but not in Iran. Additionally, Iranian student teachers are considered government employees from the outset of their studies, unlike in other contexts. Salary conditions were also found to be more favorable abroad. Conclusion: The study concludes that Iran’s system could be enhanced by diversifying training pathways, emphasizing practical teaching experience, improving facilities, and addressing teachers’ financial well-being, while also building on its early-employment model through greater school-based practice and certification requirements.
