Abstract

The aim of this research was to compare the art curriculum of the elementary school in Iran and England in order to identify the differences and similarities between educational systems of the two countries and finally to discover the opportunities and threats in the art curriculum. This research is practical and qualitative in terms of purpose, which was conducted with the descriptive-analytical method and with the help of Bereday's model in these four stages: description, interpretation, juxtaposition and comparison. The statistical population of this research includes the elementary school art curriculum in the countries of the world and its statistical sample, according to the purposeful sampling method, is the elementary school art curriculum in Iran and England. The main results of this research, after comparing the similarities and differences in the four elements of goals, content, teaching methods and evaluation methods of the art curriculum in Iran and England, shows that there are significant similarities and differences between the elementary school art curriculums of both countries. The similarities are more in the content and the differences are more in the goals, teaching methods and evaluation methods. Also, the analysis of the findings of this research shows that in the field of practice or implementation of the elementary school art curriculum, there is a big gap between Iran and England in the examined elements.
